Sundays at 9:30 am we gather in the church for Holy Eucharist (worship).
We are an Episcopal Church in the Diocese of New Jersey. Our Holy Eucharist, communion service, includes Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Table. Liturgy is a structured and shared worship experience. There are also a variety of liturgies that are used for special occasions.
When you enter the church, you will receive a bulletin that contains the entire service, except for the music. There are times the congregation gives verbal responses. Those responses are clearly marked on the bulletin. Holy Family uses the 1982 Hymnal and Lift Every Voice and Sing for music. All who attend are free to participate in the service to their level of comfort and abilities.
Liturgy of the Word
The Liturgy of the Word is the first part of the Holy Eucharist and includes the Collect (prayer) of the Day, the Lessons (Bible readings from the Old and New Testament), the sermon, the Prayers of the People, and Confession.
Liturgy of the Table
The Liturgy of the Table is also known as Holy Communion, and follows the Liturgy of the Word. It includes the Great Thanksgiving, the breaking of the bread, receiving Communion, the postcommunion prayer, blessing and dismissal.
Holy Family Episcopal Church has an open table. This means that all who attend Holy Family are invited to receive Communion, if they feel so moved. We also have gluten-free Communion available. If you prefer not to receive communion, you are invited to come forward for a blessing.
